Anyone else waiting on Purdue's MA?
I am surprised it has taken so long to hear back. Are they any good for terminal MA..and for placement?
I was accepted to Purdue's MA program last year. I declined because I also had a funded offer from a PGR-ranked MA program and Purdue's offer didn't come with any funding. I asked about placement and was told that recent applicants had gone to Memphis and Loyola Chicago, while others went to law school.
If it helps anyone, I declined a funded MA offer at Miami Ohio and a spot in the Stony Brook MA program this past week. I'll be doing the same thing with the Boston College MA program early this coming week.
where are you going instead? I would have thought that Stony Brook MA is a pretty attractive offer.

Is anyone else non-accepted, non-waitlisted, and non-rejected at CU? I think their waitlist is quite long, so I don't think they'd need a waitlist for the waitlist.
My rejection was in my spam file.
I don't, but as my homies and I are on a bunch of really nice waiting lists, we are hoping that you may be able to inform all of us here of programs you plan on (or maybe even just leaning toward) declining in the coming days.

Of particular interest to us are the following programs:

Michigan
Arizona
CUNY
Brown
Indiana
Wisconsin
Colorado
Riverside
Florida State

Hola at your boy(Z)!
Hi, I'll probably be declining florida state.

anyone who got funding from Purdue planning on declining?
Someone floated a rumor earlier in this thread that Purdue had either no funding or almost no funding this year. I know that this is the case at several schools; for example, Marquette can only make one funded offer this year.

It seems almost inhumane to not have told the schools in which you are definitely not interested.
It seems almost inhumane for 5 schools not to have told me anything.
Can grad schools rescind their offers of admission if I do horribly on the final semester?
Yes. But you have to do pretty horribly. I believe your offers say "contingent upon receiving your final transcript." Check it out.

Has anyone received a rejection from UCSB? They are one of the only schools I have yet to hear from.
Shitting Dick Nipples! I fucking hate this process! I don't know shit about my future because of fucking wait lists. Fuck them. Ass-fucking-bullshit!

P.S. Fuck.
I feel your pain. Perhaps most of all, I desperately want to know where in the hell I'm going to be living in like 4-5 months.

Anyone accepted off a wait list yet? If so, what school and what position were you on the wait list?
Yes. Boulder. number 1 on waitlist.

Some schools tell rejects (and others) how many applications they received for how many spots they had. I've been wondering about how truthful they may be. For example, someone noted that U of Maryland only had 3 new spots for this year and that they were told this in a rejection email. But there are already 3 acceptances on TGC, which usually is only a sample of the real number. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this. Are they just trying to let us down easy by giving us bleak numbers?
I believe 3 was the targeted size for the incoming class. This means they would accept more than 3, because the chances of their top 3 choices all accepting their offer is very low.
Am I correct in assuming that Duquesne makes several more admitted offers than they have fully-funded spots? If this is the case, I guess a position on the wait-list isn't all that great. I think I'll stay on though and see how things go. Anyone have any anecdotal experience with the Duquesne department?
I'm a student there buddy. Let me know if you have questions.

Does anyone knows how long the wait list at UMass tends to be? I notice that there have never been any WL posts on GC until this year (and that post happens to be my own) so I'm hoping it's short. Is anybody else here wait-listed?
Just declined a funded offer ($9k TA-ship) from the M.A. program at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It seemed like a great place. Hope this helps somebody on the waitlist!
Thank you for doing that early. Can I ask where you are likely to go instead?
Those who have questions about Duquesne, I can't answer your questions so do not e-mail roehllm@duq.edu (This is my e-mail). Some crazy person has tried to initimate me, which I hear is the sincerest form of flattery. In this case however, it's not that cute...slightly creepy actually.
I'm sorry to have bothered you. I just don't understand what enjoyment there might be in posting someone else's e-mail.

Which MA program has a better reputation? Better faculty? By the way, has anyone noticed that WMU only covers 5 graduate credits a semester?
Yes, I did notice this. But aren't you only expected to take 8 credits a semester (perhaps I am very wrong about this)? Each credit costs about $800 I think so you can pay for the extra three and still have money left over in your stipend, right?

I am waitlisted at two schools that I would really, really like to go to: Wisconsin at Madison for Ph.D. and Wisconsin at Milwaukee for M.A.

I was looking at the postings about these schools in years past on TGC and no one mentions being accepted off of the waitlist. Do people just not post this information or are schools likely to offer no one admission off of the waitlist? It's seeming to me that being admitted off of a waitlist is not as likely as I once thought (I realize, of course, that it varies by school).
I get the feeling that Wisconsin Madison's waiting list is pretty large. I'm not holding my breath.
Haven't seen anything regarding CUA after a few initial acceptances (which came with no funding info). I've got an acceptance but haven't heard a peep regarding funding. Has anyone heard anything? Contact with the department? Rumors? Anything?
Why don't you ask God about it?

Got my rank on the waitlist in an email from Patty Winspur, the grad secretary....at least they gave me a number.
Same here, although not the number that I wanted. Did your email also say you have a "good chance" of getting an offer despite what seems like a low number? Did yours also mention 5 acceptances, although it was vague as to if those 5 acceptances are from the wait-list or were original non-waitlist picks?

If anyone, like me, has heard nothing from Pitt philosophy, I spoke to Manders today and he says everything should have gone out 2.5 weeks ago and he doesn't know why so many people haven't received any news.

-T.W.
I just sent the graduate secretary and email asking to be removed from the waitlist. I was in the "group ranked between 9 and 12", so I guess the chance that this will help someone is a bit remote, but there it is.
This was at Wisconsin-Madison for the Ph.D, not UW-Milwaukee for the M.A.
Got official rejections via post yesterday. I pretty much knew about the UMass one, but Miami was my last hope at getting into a "reach" school.
Thats ok, at least I got in at a couple of other places.

But be on the look out, Miami applicants.
My Rutgers status on the web site finally went to rejected, so if you've been waiting you should check again.
same here.
Last week, I had a campus visit that was absolutely awful. Professors were indifferent, didn't know who I was, didn't care, and only wanted to know where else I'd been accepted. Students were OK, but everyone was socially deficient. Like really badly. [disclaimer: some of the students were really bright, down-to-earth people]

I had to walk through the department just knocking on doors to meet professors and, when they were infrequently there, they rushed me out of their office with "I've got some reading to do before class" without letting me sit down. There are more humorous, specific details but I don't want to identify myself.

But here's the thing: I've accepted to much better schools with much better funding packages. I was visiting on the idea that "if they are really nice community and if we really seem to click, then I have some reason for going" However, the best part of the visit was when the plane began to taxi down the runway.
that sucks, dude. On the plus side, your decision is all the easier now.
