Has anyone else heard nothing from UC Berkeley? I know that some or all of their acceptances, and a lot of rejections, have gone out. They haven't sent me anything yet. I'm wondering if I'm going to be wait-listed?

I haven't heard yet.

How do you know that most of the rejections have gone out? and how do they go out(email vs snail mail)?

tgc has only 4 or 5 acceptances and 0 rejections listed.

Did you submit your application by the 'priority deadline'?
I did not submit mine by the priority deadline.

Somebody posted a new rejection on TGC. Anybody know whether this is a new rejections round or just somebody who checked late?
looks new to me, as they said the e-mail was from today.

Another yawn-worthy day so far.
Agreed. I've heard nothing so far this season. I'm becoming more annoyed than concerned (though I'm also pretty concerned).
Stanford U
Syracuse U
U of Virginia
U of Minnesota, Twin Cities
U of Massachusetts, Amherst
Vanderbilt U
Emory U
SUNY, Stony Brook
UC Berkeley
UC Santa Barbara

So Stressful!
I don't know if this is helpful, but the only 3 schools we both applied to (Minn, Vandy, Emory) I've all heard some sort of response from.

Rejected today via email; posted on TGC. Looks like the same form letter that was sent out a few days ago.
Same here. Woke up to a cup of coffee and a rejection e-mail - at least the coffee is good!

Really disappointed. It's a crazy year out there.
So far we have seen two (rather large) set of rejections from top programs: Arizona and Rutgers. Something to keep in mind is that both are state schools, and are are experiencing substantial financial difficulties, so the admissions standards will be unusually strict and will in large part be set by the graduate school (meaning that GRE scores will count a lot). And the number of admits may well be lower. This provides one possible explanation of the patterns that we have seen.

Just received word that rejection letters are going out at the end of this week. There were very few candidates accepted because of budget cuts.
Do you know if they have a wait list or are they just straight out rejecting everyone who hasn't been accepted?

It's nearing two weeks for WashU.
I'm guessing Monday more than today.
I have known for a couple weeks, but I received an email from the department earlier today. Nominated for two university fellowships, with a TA spot if those don't work out.

Prospective's weekend in March.

No shut out this year!

A little song for the weekend:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz7ifClpT4g
Goes for Indiana too. Maybe I'll go sing this tonight.
Clicking refresh has been winning all week. This is a disgusting habit.
Second that. Still have a pile of quizzes to grade, but the allure of gradcafe and who got in is overwhelming! To solve this problem, I simply plan on sleeping through the next thirty days or so...

There were some (reported, at least) acceptances into Nebraska earlier this month. Is anyone else still waiting on UNeb? I'm also waiting on all the other programs I've applied to:
UNC
Yale
NYU
Cornell
Brown
Western Ontario
John Hopkins

My sanity bids them to hurry (even to reject)
UWO's deadline was Feb 1... I imagine we'll be waiting until March.

There's a post on GC about receiving an "Impersonal email stating that the committee is still reviewing applications, no word on when decisions will be made." Is the person who made that post here? Was this in response to some sort of inquiry, or was it a mass email? I applied to LUC and have not received any communication from them... hmmm..
I applied to Loyola as well and did not receive this mail. I also asked my friend who applied there too and she did not receive the email either. I assume/hope that it was just a response to an inquiry and not a general email.

If you were magically transformed into a dog, would you opt for a new dog name (e.g. Fido), or keep your human name?
Would you still be you if you were a dog? Provide some details on this tranformation.

AOI's

(1) Do you schools typically diversify their incoming student area of interests? (2) Does an applicant primarily interested in ethics get evaluated alongside an applicant primarily interested in logic, or do all ethics, etc. applicants get grouped together?
1. Sometimes.
2. Maybe.

If not, where on the Penn application can you check your status? I can't find anywhere.
No, it's not. Just checked my status -- rejected. Look at the bottom of the page.

Rejected at both U of O and Emory! Still waiting to hear from Purdue and U of Memphis...but not feeling exactly confident at this point.
Based on TGC, I'm giving Purdue another week at least.

In response to an e-mail inquiry to UIUC philosophy dept:

The grad application is reviewing applications now and hope to make offers between February 22 to March 5th.
..Cognac
I could really go for some Cognac
I second that...in fact, it may just be time for some wish fulfillment - because even if grad school is out of reach, the liquor store is just down the street, and they ALWAYS let me in. :)

Arizona has fared out very, very well during the economic crisis. Rather, I should say that the Philosophy Department has fared out very well. They've managed to hire McKenna from FSU and Wall from UConn despite the school's hiring freeze. Obviously the Phil dept has a treasure trove somewhere... Also, the fact that it's a HUGE state school indicates that they need TAs to do all the nasty work with undergrads. Without TAs, work doesn't get done.. so it's in the graduate school's interest to let the department hire as many students as they need and also allow the department to set their own standards (i.e., allow the department to determine what makes for an acceptable GRE score) instead of taking away those decisions. Sure, funding may be a tough to work out issue, but I think we can expect Arizona to accept an entering class of approximately the same size as previous years (NB: last year's entering class was a little oversized due to a larger number of admits, so this year's class may be comparable to previous year's classes, but maybe not the same as last year's in particular).

What's the word on Chicago? Last week there was an acceptance over email morphing into phone acceptance, and then what?

Any others accepted? All offers out? Any offers out? Do they use a wait list?

Much love...
Well, according to their website they do not do any wait lists.

What's the deal? Is this a first round of rejections? Are acceptances coming right away? What are you doing? What are you thinking? Do you love me? Are you planning something special for Valentine's?

Sigh.
Are ya'll also applying to MA programs? If so, which ones?

Hope ya'll get in! <3
I'm applying to Georgia State. I'm beginning to wonder, though, if admittance to top MA programs is as competitive and unlikely as PhD programs. It's a demoralizing idea to think that they very well may be.
