Just saw the acceptance. Any info on how many other people they were accepting or if all the acceptances went out?

Congrats to whomever you are!
I guarantee that the person who posted the acceptance is a virgin. Just saying.

Anyone want to claim the Villanova acceptance the TGC? Was that for the Philosophy/Theology spot? Thanks!
I noticed that many institutions now issue their admissions by phone. Does this imply that oversea students, if admitted, will get the notices later through emails? It's really a torture when noticing that a given place has phoned their winners, and emailed their wait lists and rejections, while I myself get none of these (not even a rejection).
Yes, this might mean that overseas people will get emails.

However, if phone acceptances have gone out, and then they also email the wait list... I don't want to be mean, but I wouldn't be holding your breath. Rejections just aren't that much of a priority for them (unfortunately), so they might just not have gotten around to you yet. For example, consider the range of days over which people have received Northwestern rejections.

Any info on what's goin on over there? It seems like they go back and forth between sort of early notifications and later ones. Sort of right in between right now.
With the Central APA in full swing, I wouldn't expect anything until next week.

Nothing else is happening, anyways.
I did not apply for Northwestern, but it looks as though they got a huge bunch of applicants this year, assuming that only a small portion of people will post their rejections on TGC (I mean, for example NYU rejects more than 500 people each year, but we do not see hundreds of post). A professor of Indiana Bloomington told me that the number of their applicants this year breaks the record. It's really miserable for all of us. I haven't heard about anything for two weeks, and I hope they will be hurrier from next week.

Anyone wanna divulge information to us poor wait-listed S.O.B.'s on offers you plan to decline, and when??
At this point, if you have multiple acceptances, I cannot but bow to your brilliance and beg for merciful speed - please send your "thanks but no thanks" email and let some lesser slob like me in!!
U of Oregon waitlisters can expect one accepted applicant to abdicate soon.

nice.
How many people now find the weekends boring because of the lack of gradcafe posts?
There's the occasional Saturday post. But yeah, I know what you mean. Bring on Monday.

A new acceptance on tgc.... congratulations.
Congrat! And I hope they (not specifically referring to Rutgers) can use emails more. As I wrote above, a side effect of phoning is that it makes international students anxious. But I know they don't care.

Toronto

Give us an answer! I have been anticipating a response for several days now after reading the earlier thread about Toronto making decisions this week.
If you scroll up a bit, the guy added some qualifiers. Casual conversation with someone not actually doing the acceptances, maybe Saturday, maybe next week, but definitely sooner than last year (which was crazy late).

Who can guess what show and episode the following quotation is from:

"(In English accent) Well, the evening began at the Gentleman's Club, where we were discussing Wittgenstein over a game of backgammon."
The X-Files episode of "The Simpsons." In actuality, Homer was eating mustard packets in Barney's car. There, you happy?

MIT

What does it mean? I haven't heard ANYTHING from them? Should I assume a reject? Is anyone else in the same boat?

Re: MIT

Most people are in your boat. There is only one rejection on tgc, likely a response to an inquiry.

Has anyone heard from UNL regarding funding? They seem to have a history of slyly sending out a few offers without notifying others (those already accepted) that they've been waitlisted.
I emailed David Henderson about this, as I got an acceptance notice without any word of funding. They have presently accepted 18 applicants who they think would fit well with the program. These 18 have not been ranked at this point. Henderson has assigned the writing samples of these 18 to be read by two faculty members each. Then the whole department will meet the last week of February to determine who to make funding offers to out of these 18. I believe they are presently unsure how much funding they will have available, but it could be for as few as 3 spots. That's all I know at this point.

CV's

February 19 2010, 21:25:47 UTC 7 years ago

So, who has a killer CV that they were able to submit to schools? And do you think it's made a difference? I'm not sure how much publications and/or conference talks count - any thoughts?
I was accepted at Pitt and Penn. I've never published a paper, never presented a paper at a conference of any kind. I've never even been to a conference. At least in my case, it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

I've received no word from Minnesota since submitting my application. I just logged into my Minnesota app online and under my status it says "Graduate School Final Review". The last time I checked, which was a few weeks ago, it said "sent to department". Has this happened to anyone else?
I just checked and found out that I was rejected. I had not received any notification of this.

Boulder made their acceptance calls/emails today (I got one of each). I asked about their numbers: They had 270 applications, they're offering 5 spots, and they have a wait-list of 25. In past years they've gone 15-17 spots down on the list.

Also, offer included a one-year Research Assistantship, which I think is more or less a fellowship. TA-ship for up to four more years.
Congrats! That department always gets A LOT of apps.

Someone on TGC stated that the waitlist for MIT is limited to 5. As one of the 5, I was wondering if this person or anyone else knows if the waitlist is numbered.
Not sure of the order of the waitlist, was never told that.

There's a Toronto acceptance...did anyone else hear anything from Toronto?? My status still says "under review"
It's real. No idea if they've done all the calls though, sorry. Also, my website status is under review.
Ready for a hot weekend round of acceptances! Go ahead, make my day!
Looks like another post on TGC. 3strikesurout claimed the first one above -- anyone want to claim this one? (P.S. Details!)

I know that there is an acceptance up from a few weeks ago, but this would be quite early historically. Has anyone heard any news? Should I quash my dreams of a posh Cambridge apartment?
A faculty member told me that they would probably be making their decisions in the second week of march. The post on TGC is definitely bogus.
