No, they weren't. One was written by me. Why? Because the jokes are fucking terrible; they remind me of middle school. And also for the reason that the most recent post on gradcafe has given:

"There is another bad thing about these "jokes" (sic). Some of us have genuine, well-thought-out criticisms of the PGR and of Brian Leiter's role in philosophy. But the comments on this forum give the impression that Leiter's critics are primarily undersexed, acne-ridden teens with a taste for blowjob jokes. If anything, this is likely to reinforce Leiter's view that most of his critics are morons."

Just consider the poster above, who writes:

"His [Leiter's] head is like the sun--if I look for more than a split-second, it painfully blinds me."

Well, thanks for that contribution. What a terrible joke. Just imagine is someone said that joke in public - it would either get a few nervous laughs, or outright silence. If you want to insult Leiter, find something FUNNY to say. Before we know it, we'll be hearing "Leiter in a blender/microwave" or "Leiter's momma is so fat..." jokes. GET A FUCKING LIFE!!!

These bad jokes are likely the result of Leiter trolling.

Accepted, waitlisted for funding.

Will most likely decline soon.
Congrats, nonetheless. I'm in the same boat -- UW-Seattle wouldn't beat out the schools I'm already into. But even superfluous good news is still good news, right?
I'm in - no funding news yet, to be decided late March/early April. Anyone else hear?
I'm in too - ecstatic! It's a bit annoying that Clarendon Awards won't be announced until early-mid April; that's cutting it a bit close to April 15, and may unfortunately delay when I can turn down other offers, thus pushing back others' waitlist notifications like a domino effect...

Did anyone here apply to the DPhil and attempt to have her application considered for an MSt or the BPhil, just in case? Since the BPhil decisions have been made I presume that the various MSt and DPhil decisions will arrive shortly.
I have applied for the Dphil and I am now waiting anxiously for a replay. I tend to conclude from the fact that I haven't heard from them yet, that my application was no successful, but I can't help checking my mail box every five minutes...
Come the fuck on Columbia and Michigan.

I mean... come on. Come... on. C'mon. Come on. Come onnnn.
And NYU. Please please please.
on TGC. Response to inquiry?
I was wondering about this too, considering the only thing we've heard about UVa so far is one claimed acceptance back on Feb. 2. Anyone know if that's legit?

Anyone else have an offer in hand that they are tempted to accept just to end this whole process and move on?

Oh yeah. And I'm almost finding myself not wanting to get in anywhere else so I can just stick wtih my decision and not waffle.

9 of 15: Rejected at University of Washington via email

4 acceptances
3 waitlists
2 rejections

Side note:

I still haven't heard anything from OSU and I don't know where to check my status online. Can someone provide a link? The address I keep trying doesn't allow me to log in, which leads me to think I'm using the wrong site.

Check your online status, or you'll recieve an email saying as much soon.

san deigo blows anyway, very conservative and full of bros. It's funny how people have a different conception of it. but hey, if you like the beach you'll be good.
Doing philosophy is difficult when the sun is out all the time anyways.

Just now, TGC has a wait list on Monday March 1 by phone. Anyone have more information on UBC?

Rice

Anonymous

March 4 2010, 21:00:28 UTC 7 years ago

Anyone heard anything from Rice? According to TGC, Rice usually would have contacted people by now, yet this seems not to be the case.

If you got the deets- fill us in!

Re: Rice

I am anxioulsly waiting on Rice as well. I think they are on Spring Break this week, so I wouldn't expect to hear anything until next week.
Now officially 0/6 and unofficially 0/12 with 4 more schools to go.

NIU

Anonymous

Has anyone rejected NIU yet? Or, is anyone considering rejecting NIU?
I am probably going to reject.

Columbia

Anonymous

Apparently some website status have changed....to announce rejections. This is pretty much my last hope, so, please, Columbia, gimme some love...
I remember when Northwestern rejections started trickling in; it took a full two days for them to update my status on the website after the first rejections appeared. Not getting my hopes up this time. haha

Email directing me to website. 2/6 out of 13.
Bummer.

I haven't heard yet but I did get my Yale rejection today.
To hell with Yale. Their placement sucks and it takes everyone seven years to get a degree. I was accepted at a better school.
With Yale's recent jump in the rankings, I suspect placement is going to get significantly better in the coming years.

I'm in the same boat. Most likely we've been rejected. On the other hand, you figure they send out twenty five acceptances, and only five or so have been posted on TGN. Now, obviously everyone who applies doesn't necessarily know about these sits. Moreover, some may know about these sites but not post anyhow. Nevertheless, there still seems to be a bit of hope that there could be more offers made tomorrow. We shall see.

UIUC?

Anonymous

March 5 2010, 01:21:13 UTC 7 years ago

Anyone accepted at UIUC and planning on declining? Also, does anyone know how many acceptances they've given? How many are on the waitlist? Anything? I'm dying here...
I will be declining. And in the acceptance email there weren't any acceptance or waitlist numbers, so I have no idea.

Berkeley

Although I received my acceptance in early February, I got an email today from the grad school telling me to go to the website and sign in to get my decision notification.
What was the point of this post dickhead? To rub it in?

So how many of us are left? I suspect that they're not done sending out rejections yet, but it helps pass the time, if nothing else. I'll start.

One.
