Getting ready to call DePaul and see what's going on there. Will post results here and on TGC.
I posted this. I called, and they said to call back in an hour, because the person who handles these things is at lunch.

Any info on when decisions will be made would be most appreciated!
They sent out the first round of rejections last week as I'm sure you know. With that being the case, I'd expect them to send acceptances by the end of the week.

UVa Status

Anyone know when UVa is going to begin notifying students of their statuses?
Hopefully soon. But apparently they're on spring break this week, so I don't have much hope.

4 offers of funding were made last week. If you were previously admitted, but have not received notification of funding, then you are waitlisted. Based on a previous post, it sounds like the waitlist runs 14 deep.

Out of curiosity, how did you come across this information?

Amherst

hmm, are we done hearing about amherst? Should I accept what I had to accept from school like Cornell and MIT, that if you do not hear from them initially, you can just wait a few weeks for a thin envelope or mass email? I hope not..... Anyone know how many admits they take? I was hoping hoping hoping.....

I'm wondering the same thing. This program is an especially good fit for my interests and, geographically, a place I very much want to be. Come on, Amherst, make my day!
Is it possible that some Canadian universities don't have recruitment weekends? They just expect you to decide?
None of the American universities that I've been accepted to have recruitment weekends. It isn't that uncommon.

I just want to make sure everyone realizes that every time someone mentions Brian Leiter's name on here, he grows an inch taller and sprouts more fangs. You're just feeding the beast!
Seems like excellent advice to me too.

Cornell?

Anonymous

March 8 2010, 22:33:04 UTC 6 years ago

Does anyone know if Cornell is sending out their rejections in any particular order? Alphabetically?
It is reverse-alphabetical by the third letter in your middle name. If you don't have a middle name or your middle name is shorter than three letters you get automatically accepted to an unfunded MA program in gender studies at the University of Alaska- Fairbanks after all the rejections have gone out.

Applied to 4 Top 20 schools and an MA program. Rejected from 3 of the 4 PHD programs so far. Overall GPA isn't spectacular, but Philosophy GPA is very good, and GREs were bunk. School isn't well known either. Haven't heard from the MA and the other PHD program is a top 5.

Wondering what other places are still accepting applications for the MA or PHD at this moment.

1. I don't think any are.

2. Some unsolicited advice: you have three marks against you, and you applied to ONLY 4 COMPETITVE SCHOOLS? What were you *thinking*? Rather than do some last minute applications now, work for a year and put an actually serious effort in next season (15+ apps).

Any more information on the Maryland acceptance?
I received the email at approx. 10pm this evening. No mention of number of applicants, acceptances, etc. Five years of support. Pretty decent funding!

I got an offer from Duquesne, and am probably going to take it. The school fits very well with my interests, and I'm excited to work with the faculty. Its really a dream come true, an I've actually been a bit depersonalized since i found out because my brain just won't believe it.

Nevertheles, I was wondering if anyone else here has been accepted to Duquesne and plans to attend. It would be really cool to make friends with my new colleagues before I even arrive on campus. Anyone? Anyone?

Cross-posted to TGC
seriously-- I'm waiting to hear from Duquesne too/// other than OP, who is in there? Who has heard anything from them?

Any Rice acceptances out there? All I've seen thus far are waitlists and rejections.

For anyone on the waitlist who is interested, I received an acceptance tonight. I was told that there were around 75 applicants with five offers.

I got accepted with funding at University of Missouri St. Louis MA Program. I heard that there is an open house in April. I need to find a roommates. I am a male and my research interests are reasons for action and political philosophy. If you got in, let me know. I got my acceptance in mid-February and I have not heard about anyone else.
I think a lot of UMSL products go on to WashU's PhD program. I think UMSL may be underrated.

Anyone else who hasn't heard anything from Berkeley? Or am I just too dumb to figure out where the website says I'm rejected? I haven't received an e-mail though. So does that mean that there still might be hope?!
You could be on a waitlist, but it's unlikely. I suggest you call the department. I did so last Thursday and was told I was denied.

Re: Tufts

Still nothing here. Their global "we'll alert the internets when your status changes, so please don't call" email made me think that they'll be working through the rest of the apps rather slowly, so I expect a lot of people won't hear anything final for a bit. They're probably going to wait to see what the response is to their initial wave of acceptances.
So you all know the saying. I was just wondering how many times people try for this. I'm on two wait lists, have one rejection, and am still waiting to hear from two schools. Obviously at this point I have to think about not getting in this time around. I'll try again next year--but after two attempts, I bet I'll just move on.

So...when do you give up and be "practical"?
So, you're on two waitlists... one rejection... waiting for two more. You've been through this process twice already and you only applied to five schools?! That's a rookie move. You're on waitlists, so clearly you have what it takes- if you really want this, just apply to more schools next time! Or move on, your choice.

Maybe there's someone around here who can give you hope- where are you waitlisted?

Anyone else not hear anything from Cornell? Someone a while back claimed that they operate with a waitlist but do not send out notifications to those who are on the waitlist. Any reason, besides this, to think that no notification means waitlist?

Re: Cornell

Anonymous

March 9 2010, 17:57:56 UTC 6 years ago

That, in part, depends on how one interprets the Feb. 23rd waitlists on tgc - and I have no idea how to interpret them.

However, when a bunch of rejections are sent out, and you don't get one, that always seems like a good sign. Maybe you should contact them?
