It finally happened. I have been constipated since January 15th. Now, endlich, there has been movement.

Peace out.
Sure you didn't just get off of heroin, too? Just kiddin - hell to the yeah.
Is it appropriate to ask the department that you have accepted an offer from who else, amongst the prospectives that one was introduced to at the department visit, ended up accepting?
I believe it to be so. I did the same after accepting to Memphis 2 weeks back and was forwarded the other acceptee's (there was only one at the time) contact info. These will be people you will be in the trenches with...might as well get a rapport goin'.

Declined LPS. It was very tough.
I got an acceptance e-mail from them yesterday.

Has anyone else heard back from them or heard of any feedback from their program? I know their placement is pretty solid for the Continental programs, but is anyone out there a recent graduate (or current student) from LMU or know of anybody who went there?

Many thanks
i am a current student there. will be graduating this spring.

leave me your email and we can have a private discussion.

Accepted UIUC and declined Cincinnati. Hope this helps.
Just now? did you hear anything from Cinci? they've been silent all day.

I hope you're not checking this in class!
Well, I won't after this post. Everyone, join me by triumphantly deleting your WGI and TGC shortcut tabs! Hooray for closure! So long, and thanks for all the slash!
Hah! I keep asking myself that same question. I don't need these sites anymore. I should just leave them behind. It's not so hard.

But . . . now it comes to it, I don't feel like parting with them. They're mine, I found them! They came to me! They got me through these difficult months. They're. . . .

Oh, no. This is not good.

Hi, Who here ended up accepting the new school? Here's one!
I also accepted -- I posted this a few pages back. Anyone else who is going there this Fall, please send me a message through Live-Journal (if you want to that is)! I look forward to meeting all of you.
I can't afford to live by myself during grad school - I will be starting this Fall. Anyone else in a similar situation? I am thinking that it would be cool to live with a fellow grad student, even another first year. Any thoughts on how to go about inquiring? Any input on whether this is a smooth move?

So did they get the 4th person? Details...AOI?

Keeping people waiting this long is such a Beltway move.
apparently they are letting people know on saturday if the person accepts or not.
Did anyone else get a phone call from Columbia today encouraging them to apply for the MA?
No, and I was rejected from their PhD program.

I was accepted off of the waitlist on Wednesday (although I had already withdrawn my name)- I'm not sure when they would go about contacting the next waitlister though. I wish you the best, hopefully you'll hear soon!

More like 7 or 8 years, suckah.
Made it through McGill's waitlist. Am very likely to accept sometime in the next couple of days.
I realise there's not much movement on the board any more, and that there was even less from people who applied to the same places as me, but...

Just to confirm that I accepted McGill's offer today, and declined Warwick's and Leeds', while withdrawing from contention for their funding packages. Congratulations to whoever ultimately gets them: both are fantastic schools, and I certainly would have been proud to go there.

Also, a great big thank you to those of you who helped me get through the waitlist, especially whoever declined on April 15th: it was your spot that I got.

Congratulations and good luck to everyone!
Any others headed to Duquesne in the fall? I've accepted an offer for the MA program, and I've noticed one other person who is headed to the PhD this fall. Any others?
Interests include History of Phenomenology, Language, Theories of Truth, and Logic.
GRE: Q800, V700, AW5.5
UG GPA: Messiah College (PA), 3.85
MA GPA: Northern Illinois University, 4.00
Two writing samples: First sample on Minimalism, Second sample on Early Heidegger. Sent only one sample to each school (unless they requested a second).
Four letters from NIU.

Attending w/Funding:
UC Riverside (University fellowship first year)

Accepted w/ Funding:
Temple (University fellowship)

Rejected w/o waitlist:
Stanford Religious Studies
Columbia
Chicago
Georgetown
Boston University
Toronto
Boston College
Villanova
Duquesne (never heard back, and never checked application status)

Waitlisted, and eventually rejected:
Notre Dame
Fordham
Looks like I will be seeing you in September!

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while.

Interests: Metaethics, Normative Ethics, Epistemology, Early Modern
GRE: Q680, V780, AW5.5
UG GPA: (St. Cloud State University) 3.65 Overall, 3.86 Major (Philosophy)
MA GPA: (Virginia Tech) 3.93
Writing Sample: Solid term paper on Spinoza's conatus doctrine. Good enough to get accepted to a few conferences, but nothing amazing.

Letters: From three professors at VT. One “strong,” the other two probably good but not great.

Attending:
Ohio State University (with five-year TA-ship)

Accepted:
University of Rochester (with first-year University Fellowship, TA-ship afterward)

Waitlisted:
UW Madison (withdrew)
Notre Dame (withdrew)
University of Virginia (withdrew)

Rejected:
Michigan
Yale
UNC
Brown
Cornell
UC Boulder
UW Seattle
Purdue

If I were to do it over:
- Apply to more schools (shoot for 20 or so).
- Submit a writing sample in moral philosophy, and use my Spinoza paper as an ancillary sample.
- Get a fourth letter from one of my UG professors.
- Spend more time on my personal statements.

I finally heard back. Was getting curious, really. Unfunded MA. Declined it.

I also got their unfunded MA, and will need to decide by the end of this month. I might accept it, given that I have no better choice.

Suppose it doesn't matter for this round, but for future reference, which programs allow students to matriculate in the spring semester (i.e., begin their studies in the spring)? i've read of a few that do, and they only allow it for special cases most times and you must submit your application the same time as everyone else.

The two I've seen so far are:

University of Chicago
University of Pittsburgh

Any others worth noting?

Same here. I am still waiting for some MA results, and I will post something later, even if not many people still check this site.
Or maybe we can try next round; I am sure that I will apply again at the end of this year...

I know this has probably been done before, but for people applying next year, let's make a list of funded MA programs. I only know UW Milwaukee.
Northern Illinois, Virginia Tech, and Texas A&M all have funded positions.

I am pretty sure that A&M only admits students for which they have funding, and I know that NIU and VT offer unfunded admissions.

Rejected by Stanford's MA; got CUNY's MA, and have to decide before 4/30; informed by Columbia that their MA results won't be forthcoming by mid-May; still waiting for NYU's MA decision. And now Pamela Hieronymi is suggesting "a moratorium on PhD Admissions" on Leiter Reports...the whole thing is more horrible than the Cartesian demon scenario.
What do you all think of the idea of starting up a new thread/board/whatever for those of us who will be starting our PhDs (and perhaps even MAs) to maintain contact and compare notes and the like? I'm thinking of two distinct potential benefits:

1.) Having access to others' experiences can help us to structure our own (e.g. class choices, TA improvements, etc.) as we navigate the path to the dissertation and what we're told is a horrendous job market. Likewise, I could see the input from students NOT at my home institution being invaluable for my own development as a researcher and a teacher. Chronicle Higher Ed has a similar intent informing some of the forums on its board, I think, but the disadvantage (from my perspective) is that, since the humanities are all together, it's more or less overrun with English students. While still relevant, that relevance seems diminished in quite a few cases.

2.) Future applicants would have some sort of point of reference for the daily grind at various departments, helping them to make more informed decisions.

Thoughts? Yea or nay?
Not class notes, obviously. I meant impressions of the programmes, advice, etc.
